BROWNIE LEVEL:

ECO -EXPLORER

$ 20/scout
In this creative approach to the study of ecology, scouts will hear a story about a young girl’s appreciation for nature and explore TNAC grounds to discover their own “natural treasures”. Found materials will then be used for nature inspired crafting. Scouts will also mix up a batch of “bird pudding” for take home feeders… including a fun & funky beaded tuna can feeder!

COLORS & SHAPES

$20/scout
Scouts will explore a basic art element…SHAPE. Hand-cut stamps & stencils will be used to create gift wrap. Scouts will learn to use a color wheel to aid in color mixing. A simple mobile will be constructed featuring “nature inspired” shapes and a Mexican (Huichol) yarn painting will be completed using a variety beautiful colored yarns.

CREATIVE COMPOSING

$ 20/scout
In this creative mixed-media workshop, scouts will compose several expressive works of art… each inspired by a different theme… music, memory & design in nature. Participants will compose an abstract watercolor painting, a torn paper collage created “by chance” and a linear study using various drawing “tools”, brushwork & printmaking. Works by Kandinsky, Duchamp & O’Keeffe will be featured.

NUMBERS & SHAPES

$20/scout
Scouts will explore a basic art element…SHAPE. Geometric shapes will be used to create patterns and designs in colored pencil. Shapes will be created by folding paper for a simple origami project. Organic shape found in nature will inspire a mixed media painting. Each scout will also create a design for their own “jigsaw” puzzle. Works by Klee & Goldsworthy will be featured.

JUNIOR LEVEL:

OUTDOOR CREATIVITY

$25/scout
Nature will inspire scouts to create works of art in various media…pastel landscape drawing, watercolor botanical painting, seashell abstractions and leaf printmaking. Scouts will discuss famous works of art by O’Keeffe, Monet & Audubon to gain an understanding and an appreciation for natural design & will create an “assemblage” using natural materials.

PRINTS & GRAPHICS

$25/scout
Scouts will learn various printmaking techniques… rubbing, stamping, stenciling, block carving to create designs for their own greeting cards, gift wrap, bookmarks and a beautiful miniature abstract painting… matted & ready for framing! Each scout will take home their own self- carved printing block for future projects.

VISUAL ARTS

$25/scout
Referencing the color wheel, scouts will gain an understanding color theory, mixing and relationships… and will use color expressively in a series of projects. Inspired by design found in nature, scouts will create a series of design to address specific color palettes… black & white, tints & shades and monochromatic. Participants will discuss the use of color to express emotion. Works by Picasso, Matisse & Marc will be featured.

MAKING HOBBIES

$25/scout
DECOUPAGE… what fun! This crafting technique is not only affordable, but a great way to recycle & UPCYCLE! Scouts will create (3) projects using decoupage with recycled materials…pencil cups, candle jars & vases. A beautiful leaf print will also be created and matted… ready for framing. Each scout will embellish their finished print with raffia & a handcrafted gift tag. A great gift for EARTH DAY!
